 Whole-house water filter (not system)
Author: JSmith9000 (MA)

Hello,

We have a whole-house water filter that was existing when we purchased our home about 10 years ago. It's never been changed and I am not certain the water is passing through it or bypassing it based on the position of the handles on the pipes. It sits near the main water valve pipes. I called the company based on info on it, and it's no longer in business, made, etc.

I'd like to replace it with something new, just a new filter installed.

I'd like to know if this is a job for a plumber or if I can call a water filtration company and still only be able to install a filter vs system?

Thank you,
J

i would do some research online and purchase the filter that sounds best to you.
then as you thought, call a plumber to have it installed.

Without something to tell us WHAT KIND of filter you have, it is impossible to say whether you need a new unit, or just a replacement element.

Sometimes when a company goes out of business there are still compatible parts available from other sources. Or another company may have taken over support for that filter if it was a popular one. What is the brand and model number on your filter? (the company that made it, not the name of the company that installed it)

The company that makes the housing SELDOM makes the element. They just buy one of the common "generic" ones.
