Do not install the DW until the flooring is installed, INCLUDING inside the DW area.

AND install a dwip pan

[dwipco.com]

the pan will make a small leak VISIBLE BEFORE major damage occurs

A proper D/W install is ON TOP OF the finished floor.

As plumbers we have no control over it. The decision has usually already been made between h/o and flooring guy and we get called in to replace the dishwasher. Usually it's 3/4" hardwood floor that has been installed that locks up the dishwasher. I've been able to destroy the underside (frame, etc.) of the old dishwasher to remove it but if the new one won't go in with the feet removed, I tell the h/o to contact a flooring guy and call me back when the problem is resolved.

Remove dishwasher from hole, install new flooring and reinstall said dishwasher.

Should one ever put a 3/4 " board under the dishwasher before installing? Thanks for other tips!

If you were not going to have the kitchen flooring installed under the dishwasher then I'd put something under the dishwasher to get it approx up to the level of the kitchen flooring to make it easier to remove if/when necessary. The drain, electrical and water supply lines are all above the flooring so it is easy to lay something down there, don't have to make any cutouts. If you do this you'll want to do it so the front edge of the material is behind the dishwasher kickplate to that the kitchen flooring can be installed under and a little past the kickplate for appearance reasons.

Also, if there is a room below the kitchen then adding that material under the dishwasher would make it quieter for anyone downstairs when the dishwasher was running.

Of course we do.

What would happen if the majority of us plumbers REFUSED to install equipment improperly?
