 Shower leak question
Author: WiscBadger (FL)

Hello! I recently had my bathroom remodeled. The shower has a main shower head and a handheld. When I went to take my first shower in the new bathroom, I discovered that when the main shower head was on there was still water coming out of the handheld and when I switched all water to the handheld there was still water coming out of the main shower head. My contractor changed out the cartridge which didn't fix the problem. He then came back and made another adjustment which "fixed" the leak but now my water pressure is much lower. I checked the main water valve and it's completely on. Is it possible that my contractor somehow decreased the water pressure in the shower only in order to make it appear that the problem was fixed?

that is considered normal for a valve meant for a shower or tub. they do not shut off the other option 100% when making your selection.
you either live with it or have it changed to a different set up....
simply put, the wrong valve was used..

Thanks Packy! Is it possible that my contractor made an adjustment that would have stopped the leak but that would have also decreased the water pressure?

sure is... just partially close the stops going to the valve. they may factory installed stops on the valve itself. you have to remove the trim cover to access them. usually need a screwdriver to turn them.
this may or may not be what you have..

Thank you very plenty for the recommendation about the jar gripper. I scratched up the finish after I needed to switch out one among my antique showered recently and that might have avoided it from occurring. Fortuitously, the one I scratched is just a brief substitute until I find the one I want for Christmas. I must in all likelihood get a few greater of those grippers to keep around the residence for other projects.
