I'm going to hook up our new fridge ice maker/water dispenser, to the cold waterline for the washer. Can you think of any sanitation issues with this configuration, is the water that comes out of the washer line considered portable water? We live in a mobile home, and my laundry room is right behind my fridge, a much shorter distance than the sink. Also; our sink inlet lines are solid with no shut off valves, our home was made in 1994.

I'm planning on drilling a hole in the wall behind the fridge, and running a braided waterline from the washer outlet to the fridge inlet. Below is the configuration I plan on using, do you foresee any issues with the below setup?

Attach a brass garden hose "Y" with a shut off valve, a braided ice maker line, Teflon tape and a few adapters to reduce/make the connection from the "Y" to the braided line. Then just connect everything up (using Teflon tape).

Washing machine cold water supply > garden hose "Y" > garden hose shutoff valve > reducer > reducer > braided ice maker line > refrigerator.

My biggest concern is finding the adapters for downsizing from 3/4 female to 1/4 male needed to attach the ice maker waterline.

may be considered potable water but any water flowing through rubber hose might taste awful (at least that's true with a garden hose)

better plan would be to do a crawl and determine how to run a new dedicated line to a new icemaker box installed in the wall behind the fridge or if that can't be done then to come up through the floor.

So you think the rubber from the washer hose will transfer over via the 'Y' connector, if I configure it with the parts below?

you are close to having the correct fittings
the hose splitter "Y" is correct.
the downsize adapter is not needed..
the hose x compression elbow is a good idea but it reduces the hose thread to 3/8 compression and the stainless hose you show is 1/4 inch.

you want a 3/4 hose x 1/4 inch compression adapter.

so, the splitter, the hose x compression adapter and the stainless supply hose and you are good to go..

Thank you everyone! I got it all hooked up as suggested, and we have water and Ice! So far no funky rubber taste to water, we even tasted the water (after flushing 5+ gallons) prior to hooking up to fridge to be sure it wouldn't taste rubbery.

We have terrible water in our area, very very soft due to living on the MS gulf coast, use to be brown but has cleared up considerably, I'm contemplating on adding an inline water filter to the line prior to it entering the fridge, Not sure if this would just be redundant or not.

The reason I added a second shut off via the 'Y', so it the hose to fridge/washer leaked I could turn one off, and still have water to the other appliance.

Not for use in potable drinking water applications. Googled lasco part number.

Can you tell me exactly what you used? I'm trying to accomplish the same thing.
