What type of wrench/tool do I need to open this ?
Author: MMalsuch (NJ)

Hi -
In the new building that my company just moved into, on the bathroom floor, there is a pipe with a cap on that i've never seen before and don't know how to get off. In the pictures attached, it is the one on the right, with the asterisk shape on it. It is 5.5" from edge to edge.

Can anybody tell me what i need to open it up and maybe where i can get it ? I have spent a lot of time searching for it online without any luck.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Looks to be a clean-out cover for that floor drain.

Before you attempt to unscrew that plug, you need to chip away the concrete that is partially covering it and spray some Aerocroil or WD-40 and let is sit overnight. I have never seen a clean out plug designed like that one. It must be an old home back east I am guessing.

NoHub:Yes, it does appear to be a cleanout plug for the floor drain.

Steve: Thanks for checking but no, that would not work. The way the cover is keyed, that red wrench would not fit.

PlumberLoren: Thanks, yes, i will chip away the little bit of concrete around the edge once i find the right tool to open it up. And yes, I am in New Jersey in a warehouse space that was probably built in the 1940's.

You don't need a wrench that conforms to the 6 legs, just 2. Any flat metal bar that fits across 2 slots should work.
