 Kitchen strainer leakage
Author: Kari_hnl18 (HI)

Hello I need help fixing my kitchen sink leakage.
I've never done this and im new to plumbing so please be patient with with me.
My sink was clogged so I was trying to loosen the caps to see if there were anything stuck in the drain.
While I was trying to unscrew the slipnut, the pipe from the kitchen strainer just popped out.

It's very rusty. The flat washer was very rusty and it broke when it popped out.

Now it's leaking from the hole between the locknut and the tailpiece.

I'm not sure where to start and what to buy to fix this.
Please help!! Thank you so much in advance.

you need a new slip nut, a new kitchen tailpiece as long as the one you have there and you need a new flat washer for the top.
that old nut on the top is corroded and most likely will never unscrew.
i would just make a cut (up and down) in it and split it with a screwdriver.
once it is off you can remove the tailpiece and install the new one along with a new washer and nut.
a little grease wiped around the threads and washer will make it tighten easier.
BTW, you may have to get a longer tailpiece and cut it. PVC is fine..
