Hi all,
I have a unique problem that's not been addressed before in this site.
I have a 7 year old single lever Kohler shower valve. My shower water temperature varies for a given position of the knob.
If I keep the knob in the middle position, Sometimes the water is too hot and other times it is too cold. Just to be clear, the temperature does not fluctuate, its just very different for the same position of the knob, at various times.
If I start from cold and move the knob to middle, then the water is usually too cold. If I then push it all the way to full hot and bring it back to the middle, then the water is too hot in the middle position. This leads me to believe that the temperature control is somewhat sticky.
Can someone let me know what could be wrong? I do have hard water in my house leading to severe scaling. Is that some how impacting the shower temperature control?
Thanks.

Your valve probably does NOT have a "temperature control". What it usually has is a pair of tapered arcs and as one closes the other opens. Any variable temperature at a given setting is the result of changes in the water temperature in the pipes.

Thanks. This helped. Kohler diagnosed the issue on the phone and suggested I change the pressure balancer valve kit. I did that and that did the trick. Thanks for your help.
Best,
Lakshman
