 Bullet proof shower valve?
Author: Pipe runner (AZ)

Is there a particular valve that is less likely to get clogged with debris from failing galv. pipe?

some shower valves such as grohe thermostatic valves have cleanable filter screens in them.
other than that they will all clog one way or another.

Thanks Packy,
Now if that valve has integral stops I'm sold.
In an apartment situation where the Delta valves keep getting clogged
with rusting galv. pipe. Not fun to tell the entire building that
their water is to be shut down because Mary Jo can't take a shower.

Most manufacturers of single handle shower valves offer option screen stops (angle or straight). Some of those same manufactures offer integrated stops. You could also install inline stops on each supply line if possible. It just may not be your equipment rather the quality of the water coming into your building combining the gavl pipes.

Would a whole building conditioner or softening system help?

Best Wishes
