why does the sloan royal II flush handle no longer works to flush
Author: Praetor1 (CT)

our Sloan flushometer didn't flush and we found it was because of the handle, and though we used replacement parts to fix our issue, I couldn't see any problems with the original handle assembly. out of curiosity we took dial calipers and roughly measured the steel peg, spring, plastic and rubber pieces, and found there was hardly a difference to a new kit, we then found a plastic sleeve within the metal handle assembly, at the ball pivot, that might've been used as a bearing, and that had shown significant wear, could this be the problem, or is it something more?

There are only two things that can prevent a Sloan valve from flushing.
1. The handle pin is not extending far enough to impact the relief valve stem, (very, very rare). Or,
2. The relief valve stem is not hanging down where the handle pin can deflect it sideways, (almost always the case). The stem can break off, in which case it will be stuck in the vacuum breaker, or the telescoping section is stuck inside the top piece and does not drop down so the handle cannot push on it.

"any replacement parts" won't work the same as factory OEM parts and components. And yes, the relief valve A19AC

Thanks, awesome info, I did replace the whole valve, assembly. I just wanted to know, if there was something I can do, besides replace the whole handle assembly, leaving this as a last resort, because it's more cost effective if it can be fixed. Heck I was ready to machine an aluminum mold to make the plastic and rubber parts of the handle assembly. how about placing a 5/16th" stainless bearing behind the stem? The handle has an opening drilled 7/8" into it, with a chamfered opening that can accommodate a good sized bearing, pushing the stem out between 1/8" to 1/4". also increasing tension in the spring. Thanks for the response
