 submersible well pump
Author: Nicki.townsend96 (MI)

Hello,
My husband and I are trying to replace our submersible pump on our own(It's a cost issue). We went through troubleshooting, have replaced the pressure switch, and the pressure gauge. We've verified that power is getting to the well with a volt meter. Our system does not have a pressure tank, which also backs up the thought that our pump has burned out and needs replacing. We both have general plumbing and electrical knowledge, and after doing some research and watching some videos, we thought we could handle it. However, when we pulled the cap off, it didn't look like everything we had found online. Ours has a steel piece across the top, with a PVC pipe extending down to the pitless adapter, where it's threaded and screwed in. It also appears to has some sort of hinged flap opposite the adapter. I'm not sure if we need to remove this PVC/steel thing, then use the t handle to attach and pull it out? I'm sure once we get past this, it won't be difficult, as much as very physical. Any help would be great, thanks!
Nicki
PS. our well is 112', and is 17 years old.

We'll need some photos of the view down the well casing to help you. Also, what is the I.D. of the well casing?

I feel sure you are mistaken about not having a pressure tank. It` is most likely buried beside the well. You can't screw the t handle into the top of the pitless adapter ?

I don't see any visible markings on the casing. No dates, depths, model numbers, etc. I'm trying to share these photos, but it's not working...talk about making it difficult to get advise.

My husband thought that also, thought about poking around nearby the well casing, see if we can see anything. No, can't attach anything to the adapter, there is already a PVC pipe screwed into it.

To add, the steel top part has been turned a quarter turn counterclockwise in the photo. It was at 12:00 when opened.

[www.merrillmfg.com]. This is what you have- sorry, I can't be too much help as I've never worked on one but it appears that it is loosened by inserting a tool down thru the pull pipe and engaging it that way.

Well that's something at least. I'll keep researching now that I know what it is. Appreciate it!
