pond smell in my well water
Author: waltermortimer (Non-US)

This spring my water began smelling like stagnant pond water and when hot water was used to wash dishes,it had a dirty ash tray smell. My well tested positive for coliform(22).I had a uv light installed to take care of that and I shocked my well with javex . My system has a demin tank and a water softener on it ,but I still have the pond smell and will not drink my water. Is there anything besides adding a carbon filter to my supply that I can do to remedy this?

Have you retested since you sanitized the well?

No,I have not retested but I know it will be o for coliforms and ecoli because of my uv system. We have not had much rain this spring or summer and it was suggested by another unhappy well smeller that the problem could be because of my well being low on water. However,I am going to have it retested for metals etc. to see if any changes have occured .Thank you for suggesting this.

You need to test the water before the UV filter. The well may need further attention.

Thank you, I will take my sample off of my tank before it goes thru any of my system
