 Pipe Bench build question
Author: randyj (OK)

Hi all!
Thanks for taking time to read my post!

Let me start off by saying that this is not exactly a plumbing related post but more of a creative project I am working on! I am using 3/4 inch pipe as a base for a bench I am building. (no doubt you have heard of the design trend)

here is an instagram picture of the bench

My problem/question is that the cross bar supports do not screw in the whole way on both ends due to the thread on the pipe. I have looked online and seen "left to right" threaded pipes and also "left to right" threaded couplings. I have seen some notes saying I will need both of those pieces in order to make my "joint" I was hoping to avoid having to use a coupling in the middle of the cross bar for aesthetic reasons...will a left/right threaded nipple work with 2 regular couplings?? (or in this case two regular T-Couplings?)

Again thanks for taking the time to read my post and any help is appreciated!

It depends upon the order of assembly. You could use a single piece of pipe between the tee's if you start there. If that's the last piece to be installed, one left-right nipple could be used at one of the tee's and then a long piece of pipe. It would look better with a coupling at a tee rather than in the middle of the run.

Left/right nipples are 4" long so it would have to go at a tee. Also, you can get "4 way tees" instead of stacking two tees with a nipple between them.
