Water heater temp and faucet water temp

Just had a water heater changed. Also have a new 4" inch well replacing a 2" well. While flushing the old hot water I cut on the shower hot water to drain the tank. The water kept running with out stopping. We had to shut off main line to the house. I also have had some other recent plummbing work done in our other bathroom on the same floor. I set the new water heater temp to 140 degrees. I have ran the shower faucet and another upstairs faucet with the hot water only until the water reached its highest temperature which was between 114 and 118 degrees. Is this a normal temperature difference between the hot water heater temp and the temperature at the faucet? I don't want to wear out my new water heater.
