I noticed water backing up from spigot when I have a garden hose attached. Water seems to be leaking back into the wall behind the spigot. However, if the garden hose is not attached, the water comes out of the spigot no problem with no leaking from behind. It is only when the garden hose is attached that I see water backing up. It is not leaking from the connection point of the hose to the spigot . It definitely looks to be backing up behind the wall behind the spigot

You must have a "freeze proof" spigot which has frozen and split.

I'm having the same problem. No leaks without the hose but leaks from under the top cap when the hose is attached. I'm planning to get this fixed but, in the meantime, can I use the tap safely without the hose attached?
