I have a horizontal PVC pipe with a home water filter attached that is about 2" away from the wall. I need to support it so I don't twist off the pipe and cause a leak. What type of hanger can I use to secure this pipe?

those were my first thought but kinda hard for a homeowner to deal with 3/8 rod and nuts etc..
so i thought a van hanger would be simpler..

True Packy, but a van hanger is a fixed dimension so a h/o may be faced with shimming it out to make it work (as you stated).

unless it is a cement wall, chances are there is not a 2 x 4 where he needs it to be. so a piece of 3/4 plywood would be needed to attach to.
