 Loose toilet flapper
Author: ShopPeo (IL)

Frequently when we flush the toilet the flapper just falls off where it hooks onto the overflow tube. The overflow tube has a knob on each side that the flapper hooks onto. The flapper has an eye on each side that fits over the knobs on each side of the overflow tube.

I'm trying to avoid any extra expenses right now. I was wondering if I could stretch out a rubber band and hook it onto each knob to hold the flapper eyes in place on the knobs? Does that make sense? Everything else works fine, the flapper still seats tightly and provides a tight seal as long as it doesn't come unhooked from the overflow tube.

I'm not sure why all of a sudden the flapper eyes keep sliding off the knobs. It's seems like they got stretched out and no longer fit tight on the knobs. The knobs are just straight and don't have a curved end that would hold onto the flapper eyes better.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Over time, with age, things get loose.

A new toilet flapper is cheap you don't need a fancy one.

Anything with "Kohler" on it is overpriced.

I had a problem with a Korky flapper on an A/S toilet, getting stuck. The shape of the eyes on the Korky were different than the original. I went to the plumbing supply house. Live and learn. I think the Korky cost me more.

And most of them are made by Korky anyway.
