Need 33x22 sink w/small interior dimensions, NO mounting rails
Author: Doris (MA)

Trying to replace an old Americast 7179 sink w/stainless steel, but the granite cutout is too small to accommodate the interior dimensions of most 33x22 sinks. (Need about 31x20). Some almost seem to fit, but mounting rails keep it from working.(I've purchased and returned four sinks so far.)
So, my big question: How do I find a drop-in stainless steel sink without mounting rails? (American Standard said they don't make them.) Further complication: granite guy said enlarging the cutout is not an option, because the back section might become too thin to support the sink and could crack.)
Am I stuck with this old enamel sink forever, or is there a way out? Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

An angle grinder with a cutoff wheel can remove mounting rails. You can remove the side rails and just use the front and rear rails to clamp the sink down.

A self-rimming sink (drop in) depends on the rail and clips for securing it to the countertop so its unlikely you'll find one without the anchor system. You'll probably do best looking for an undermount.

A cast iron or solid surface sink would probably fit. They have no mounting rails and usually have a big mounting lip.

Right, a Franke composite sink should drop right into the hole.

Great suggestion, and Elkay also allows customers to special-order sinks without mounting rails (who knew?). That sounded perfect, but unfortunately they do not make a single 33x22 sink with interior dimensions small enough to work.
So it's back to the drawing board for me, but your advice may well help someone else.

Never heard of composite sinks before - this may be my best solution - thanks!
