Higher Temp Settings on water heater
Author: Judy L (CA)

Just had a new water heater installed and it was set on the letter B. I understand that is considered medium as far as the temperature. Would turning the dial up to C get hot water to the location we are using faster and by turning the dial up higher, will it increase the cost of the gas bill? Right now, it is taking longer for the water to get hot, so we are running it longer, therefore wasting it and increasing the usage.
Thank you

Turning the thermostat to a higher setting wil give you hotter water. But it won't deliver the hotter water any quicker to your faucets than a lower setting.

Is your new water heater a tankless or does it have a tank? Increasing the heat setting will make your water hotter but will not bring the water to the faucet any faster. Yes, it will increase your gas/electric bill.

What brand and model ?
Best Wishes

A lack of Pipe insulation can be a huge factor for heat loss as it travels from your tank to the shower. If you have access to any piping make sures it's properly insulated.

Yes, you are right , C means the hottest. If u increase the temperature to such an extent then for sure you will get bit more usable content, however, your increase in cost would not be linear. At every increase in temperate your, cost per gallon (or litre) starts increasing on incremental basis. A perfect example would your car, which consumes more fuel per mile if speeds is 65 mph rather than 35 mph. The difference is, in water heater it happens because of temperature differentials between ambient and water, in later it is because of air friction.
