 Submersible pump without pitless adapter
Author: kobayashimaru (NJ)

Greetings.
I live in Jackson, New Jersey and I am looking to replace my above ground water pump with a submersible one. Problem is, the well head is somewhere in the middle and three feet below an asphalt driveway. Is it possible to install such a pump without something poking out of the driveway?

The well, which was drilled in 1974, is 4 inches wide and is 100 feet deep. The water starts about 15 feet down and the current foot valve is at 25 feet. It is brought up with a Flotek 3/4 horsepower jet pump, not running as a jet pump (no second water line.) Reason for the switch are for lower electric bills, more water pressure and for the ability to supply a tankless water heater.

Thanks
Joe

Regardless of what type of pump you have, eventually the well will have to be accessed to service the system. This is easier to address in warm weather vs. cold weather (frost). In your situation, you will need to construct a vault around the well a minimum of 4' X 4'. The vault would need to extend to the driveway level and then be covered with a steel plate heavy enough for traffic over it.
