 HELP!!Sanitary crock=builder error??
Author: Pups1 (WI)

We are building a new home within city limits. Our home is a month from completion and our builder just informed us that we need a sanitary crock due to the sewer line at the road being higher than the pipe coming out of our house. Is this builder ERROR?? Do most builder check this before digging to prevent this? Please advise smiling smiley

This is something that is usually known before the footers are dug but it is not the end of the world.

YOu do NOT need a "crock". you need an ejector pump and basin, but in your case, the safest, but most expensive option, is a duplex pump system with all the necessary bells and whistles to make your house safe.

this is a fairly big screw-up. the discharge from your ejector system will have a check valve (one way valve) in it so the pipe from the house to the sewer will be full of water all the time. your being in WI means the frost line must be very deep. 5-6 feet or more. the pipe must be lower than the frost line or it will freeze. sewers themselves are different and can be higher as the water in them is running and they tend to generate some heat.

yes

big time screw-up

run, if you can not get the issue corrected WITHOUT a problematic and hi-maintenance ejector system

however

it may be YOUR screw-up for not performing 'due diligence' before purchasing
