Hey so in this first picture you can see the laundry drain pipe and floor drain number 1. If I pour water down the vertical pipe it goes directly into drain number 1 and takes a really long time to leave this drain. This is where it backs up onto the floor. In the second picture is another drain with a bolted cover that I can pour a large bucket of water into and it handles it fine. I can also pour a whole lot of water down other drains in the house an everything is fine. Does this mean the there is just a clog between these two drains? If so is this something I can fix by renting a power auger?

just snake from the floor drain for a few feet. the blockage is between it and the main. when you get the snake thru and the stoppage moving, stick the cold water hose down the standpipe and snake some more to wash away all the debris. should be a pretty simple job.

To "snake it" would I just use a power auger or would something cheaper work?

Over the years, sand, soap, softener and lint, enters the drain without being filtered. I don't know how old your drains are or how long you have been dumping suds water down the drains. I personally like water/pressure jetters to remove the blockage. An auger may work for a short distance and its far cheaper than a powered unit. Do not chemicals. They will have no effect on sands and lints.

there is a trap at the bottom of the floor drain. that big wire will not go thru it.

Just a update. I rented one of the drill ones and it seemed like i couldn't get very far but I pulled out a little chunk of plastic bag and it seems to drain as fast as I can pour water down it now. Thanks for the help everyone!
