 Water supply line diameter
Author: DalePMR (IN)

Good evening,
Im replacing a hodge podge of pvc and galvanized water supply lines dating back to the 1940s. Its a 4000+ sq ft 2 story farm house with well and new softener. Should I use 3/4 from softener to all fixtures? Or 1"? House has 2 full baths, laundry, 1 kitchen and Im adding spigots to each side of house. Also, pros and cons to whole house water filter before or after softener? Thank you very much for your time!

What size is the incoming pipe ? What is the pipe material ? What kind of pipe are you planning on using ?

Consider the new Blue Poly, in 100 ft coils. Its a 1/3 the price of copper. One inch ID for the underground run and once in the house/barn, you can go with 3/4 inch ID for your runs and then down to 1/2 inch ID to the faucets. With all the money you save... you can buy a crimp tool with 3 size clamps. You will need rings too.

Best Wishes

1 inch to the point where you break for the water heater. then 3/4 to the water heater and 3/4 for cold.
no more than 2 fixtures on one half inch pipe.
