No hot water in shower, everywhere else has hot water
Author: Eang18 (CA)

A short history:
Around 1 month ago, my shower took a long time to get hot. But if I turn on the hot knob on the toilet sink, you hear a "click" sound and the shower gets hot.
3 days ago, the shower never did get hot. The pipe in the wall to the shower feels hot, but no hot water is coming out. When the valve is removed, the 2 water pipe comes out with cold water. We changed the valve (but not cartridge because Home Depot did not have any). The brand of the shower is Kohler.
This morning, when taking a shower, I suddenly heard a loud "Click" again and there was hot water. I can control the temperature of the hot water. But after this morning's shower, there is no more hot water.
I own a condo, so turning off the water supply would mean that all units will not have water. Therefore, I would like a better picture and proceed.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

you may have integral stops so you can close them and wont have to shut off the building off when you take the face plate off you'll see a spot on the hot and cold water line side of the diverter where you would use a flat head screwdriver to shut them off like packy said call kohler get the free parts if you can wait

What do you mean by "You changed the valve but not the cartridge"?, since the valve is the entire unit and the cartridge is the operating mechanism.

I was trying to post the picture but had some problem. But the unit that was replaced was Kohler RGP77759 : Mixer Cap for Pressure Balance 1/2 in. Valve

According to Home Depot, if you want the cartridge, you have to place an order and they can ship it.
Thanks
