 kitchen sink drain replacement
Author: new2plum (NY)

Hello, so i reversed the order of rubber and paper gaskets. I put the paper gasket up to sink, then rubber then nut. I used plumbers putty correctly. All the gaskets were new and i installed last night by hand tightening and one quarter wrench turn Question: can i simply remove gaskets n reinstall or do i need new. Thank you

if it doesn't leak, leave it alone. if it leaks, take it apart, toss the putty and use 100% silicone caulk. clean up with denatured alcohol before it sets up and use water immediately. no need to wait.

Rubber goes on first than metal or paper gasket to all the nut to be tightened without pinching the rubber and creating a leak. One needs to reason the use of these materials.

1. The rubber gasket goes against the sink and the paper one goes under it.
2. You do NOT tighten the drain using a "formula", such as hand tight and a 1/4 turn more". You tighten it until it will not turn any further.

Only if it starts to leak.

If you wait until it leaks you may need to replace the paper gasket so why not fix it now and be done with it?
