 Kitchen faucet
Author: Jen8112 (NH)

Hello. I'm trying to install a new kitchen faucet. My problem is the water hose has a 1/2" female connector and the new sink hose has a 3/8" female connector. I tried getting fitting to connect and adding valves and it keeps leaking. I tried plumbers tape, no plumbers tape, tight, not as tight, and it still leaks. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I really can't afford a plumber since I really couldn't afford a new faucet to begin with but mine broke. I'm made 7-8 trips to HD/Lowes and I'm about ready to quit. Do you really need a kitchen faucet anyway? Lol. I will try to attach a pic of the hoses. TIA.

Ok not sure how to attach a pic.

What's at the other end of the ½" with the black nut? Angle stop? What size? What method of attaching the 3/8 to the ½ were you using? A brass, ½"male pipe x 3/8" compression adapter should mate them. Although I'm leery of slip joint pressure connections like the ½" is using.

The silver one goes to the new faucet and the black one goes down to the basement. I have no values underneath, just shut offs at the main box. I'll post another pic of how I have it now but it's leaking.

The right side is leaking from the PEX to the compression connection on the angle stop. Don't over tighten this connection. It appears you may need to tighten it up a little more if you have not already over tightened it.. Turn the wate off at the valve inlet to your home or turn the cold water on to relieve pressure on the compression nut while tightening the nut... Also you may want to consider purchasing new connections from 1/2"compression to your Angle stop compression size. I agree with the remarks about the current 1/2" slip compression connection. Note that these type connections do not need to be tightened too much. I think normally hand tight plus 3/4 or a turn move to compress the rubber seal.

sloren, i believe those are 1/2 IPS x 3/8 compression stops with brass nipples screwed into the inlet.
the black nuts originally went to the faucet shanks. now the new faucet has 3/8 compression nuts on the hoses.
i believe the fittings she is using are the right way to go if the same pex tubing ends are to be used.
so, jen, you just need to use some teflon tape, pipe dope and a prayer to get that leak to stop.
if you want to make another trip to home depot tou can get 2 shutoffs that are 5/8 sharkbite on one end and 3/8 compression on the other.
simply tighten the faucet hoses on one end and slide the shut off onto the pex.
depot has them..

+1 on the sharkbite stops.
