 New Fernco 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 Grey coupling
Author: bmusgrove (TX)

Remodeling a bathroom and decided to replace the above sized coupling on my tub drain when I pulled the tub. Its 23 years old and I figured "Why Not".

I cannot find a identical replacement What I find is a Fernco PDT-150 The PDT-150 coupling is a grey highly flexible material with a smaller wall thickness. The old one is black, thicker wall, and is much more rigid. It has no manufacturers information on it.

Any idea why the change in materials? Is the new Fernco PDT-150 Material National Plumbing code compliant?

If it helps this cooling is used to connect a 1 1/4 slip joint tub drain assembly to the trap.

The grey coupling is a pipe-to-tube coupling for joining traps to pipe.

Get rid of the Fernco all together. It's just a source for future leaks.

inlet side of a trap is very loosely regulated by plumbing code. there are no sewer gases involved so there is not much concern.i wouldn't worry what you use as long as it doesn't leak or corrode.

You should never use chemical drain cleaners, anyway, but if you have a fernco, they will destroy it in short order. Notice...they all claim to be safe for all pipes. Fernco's ain't pipe.

Your bathtub shouldn't have an 1¼" drain, tubular or pipe. 1½" should be the minimum size.

My apologies I had my head up my nether regionsIt's a 1 1/2 to 2 inch coupling. The tub overflow is a Dearborn Brass P8227c [www.oatey.com]

This kit is used because the AC condensate line is connected to the condensate elbow on this unit.

However the corrector coupler is still this same grey material. Any ne know anything about it? I prefer not to use complete glue in because it's a pain to reach the area it has to go.
