repair sections of PVC sewer line with rubber couplings?
Author: bam99 (SC)

Well, I had the roots snaked/chewed out of my sewer line, then pinpointed the location where roots had invaded.
It's only about three feet deep.
To save the $4000 that I don't have anyway, can't I just excavate that section, carefully cut a piece out with reciprocating saw, slip in a fresh section of PVC, and seal it with rubber couplings like "Fernco Strong Back RC Couplings"? Without the rubber couplings, it's just about impossible to replace a short section of PVC underground, right?

That will work. If possible, maybe you could include a clean-out in the new section you'll be installing. For the future.

If the existing line is Clay, you can rent soil pipe cutters at most rental centers if you ask for them.
