Water dripping from pvc pipe sticking out of side of house
Author: Dochughes (TX)

for the past week water (hot) has been dropping from the side of the house. It started as a drip but has gotten worse. What could be the problem?

It's most likely water from the water heater temperature and pressure relief valve. The causes could be a faulty thermostat causing overheating, a bad expansion tank, a bad pressure reducing valve allowing excessive water pressure in the house, etc.

The relief valve would NEVER be connected to a PVC pipe, so it is something else, possibly a drain from a water heater pan, but without knowing what the pipe IS connected to, we cannot answer your question.

What equipment is inside the house near where this pipe comes thru?

Also is it coming out of a basement, first floor, attic, etc?

Perhaps a condensate drain from HVAC unit?

overflow 'catch pan' from air handler (water would be hot due to weather)

drip pan from attic mounted water heater

drip pan and leaking TPRV (some TPRVs are improperly terminated into drip pan)

you MUST determine where the pipe originates

good luck
