 combine split system water heaters

First time finding this forum. What a great resource!

I need some advice on how to tackle this. I have a 2800 sq ft one story ranch with two separate hot water heaters. They are located at each end of the house. I’m guessing this was done to shorten hot water runs?

I would like to 1) eliminate one of my two hot water heaters and go to a single high efficiency heat pump water heater 2) create a closed hot water loop on a timed pump

The original plumbing was routed in the foundation concrete slab. I have full attic access and could route up from the last item on each system and connect in the attic.

My biggest question is how to connect the two systems to play nicely together and create the loop.

Is there a diagram that anyone knows of that I can reference?

if your new water heater is located at one end of the house, the piping for the hot water plumbing on that end would not need a recirculating line. only the piping on the far end would need one...

Years ago my water was routed under the slab. It was common back then. Not too long ago the code changed and you can no longer run copper under the slab, it must be routed overhead. My wife heard the sound of water running in our master bedroom. I went to the lavatory to open the cabinet to listen but when I put my hand on the carpet, it was warm. I went out to the garage to turn off the water heater, when I did, she said you fixed it. That was when a couple of days of running copper in my attic began. Now is the time to repipe your home.
