 unceonventional shower drian
Author: Judy T (CA)

I will be replacing my shower floor tile in order to divert the drain to the outside and use for watering the grass and plants. I do not want to remove and replace the hot mop, just the tile and mortar bed. Does anyone know of a low profile L-shaped pipe, 2-3" in height?

You don't want to alter anything with the shower construction, or remove the p-trap. The shower's construction is designed to contain the water and keep it from damaging your property and make sure that the water makes it to the drain. The P-trap will prevent insects from coming back up your pipe into your house. If you choose to break up your shower just to water plants, you would be much better served by diverting the drain after it leaves the shower so that you can avoid replacing everything. edit- also keep in mind that fundamentally altering a home can adversely affect the value for future buyers.
