Have you guys had any problems with caulkless drains in showers
Author: srloren (CA)

I installed a Sterling Shower Surround with a caulkless drain. I have never installed this type of drain. How do they hold up and are there any problems with them? TIA

Are you saying that you always lead pour your shower drains? I have never had an issue with leaks but I always support the trap so that it cannot slip down. I will also 'lube' the gasket slightly with silicone caulk to help with compression.

i too would rather use a different type drain (preferably a glue type). but if you want a solid brass drain you have two choices. lead and oakum or compression.
if the trap is supported and there is a mortar bed under a fiberglass base, you are OK.
i use a touch of heavy auto grease to lube the rubber donut.
the height of the pipe sticking thru the rubber is critical. Never too short...
