 Dry Toilet
Author: scubagrl72 (NE)

Returned from week long vacation to a toilet tank that won't refill. It flushes well when I add water to the tank. I've adjusted the flotation device up & down, checked the rubber gasket on the fill valve (no holes, cracks). Toilet is newer, a/c was off while we were away so it was 80+ degrees inside. All other plumbing functioning normally. Valve is wide open. But no steady stream (or trickle) of water incoming? Any advice or tips are appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Main floor toilet, both upstairs & downstair function fine.
Great water pressure to sinks, washer, etc.

Newer tank parts, solid flooring, no visible leaks or areas of wetness.

Is there a mechanism with a chain under the float?

paul, i just dealt with my first leak detector ball cock the other day. i had to read the instructions to make it work. the chain must not have any slack in it. i suppose it is a good idea ???

This toilet has a Fluidmaster type fill valve, adjustable, relatively newer. Looks to be in good shape (including the rubber gasket inside). frowning

Fluidmaster makes a fill valve with what they call a Leak Sentry device. It has a mechanism under the float with a plastic chain attached to it. If it is not adjusted correctly it will not reset itself, if, while you were gone the tank leaked out.You would have to pull up on the device to manually reset it.

if the chain is not adjusted correctly she would have to pull up on the chain every time the toilet is flushed.
