Someone, maybe the city, used a galvanized nipple close to my water meter when doing some sort of work maybe 3 or 4 years ago.
Not sure its worthwhile to mess with it to get a brass fitting in there. Luckily they had the forethought to use a dielectric fitting in there as well.
How long before this becomes an issue? I assume this wouldn't be considered wrong or a problem?
(ps- Ironically, I think this was done during a copper repiping!!... getting rid of galvy only to add another piece??)

So your suggesting replacement... why?
Assuming rust is the issue and that would take what 30 years to be an issue?

Are you talking about the nipple coming out of the top of the heater?

no, its a nipple that attaches to the meter where it transitions to copper. It has dialeteric union on one end and the meter on the other. Not sure of its purpose.
