Help!! Sewage ejector pump gets smelly on hot summer day
Author: yaya74 (NJ)

First time posting on this forum... Please excuse me if this question has been asked previously.

I have a Zoeller sewage ejector pump which was installed a year ago.
I notice a poop-like smell coming from where the pump is at the end of a warm hot summer day, especially if the bathroom connected to the pump was not used.
Recently the shower drain (connected to the pump) gets smelly.
But the smell would dissipate once I activate the pump and flush some water down the drain.

Is this problem with the odor something that I can resolve myself, or do I need to call my plumber??

TIA.

It sounds like you may be lacking a vent and the toilet flushing or pump operating may siphon the water out of the shower's trap. I would recommend getting a licensed plumber to assess the situation and verify that your system is vented properly.
