Well water reacting with new hose material
Author: CraigO (CT)

Has anyone had a problem with well water smelling from one faucet 2-3 weeks after changing it? I have been through three faucets and two manufacturers and after 2-3 weeks the water from the pull out hose begins to smell after not being used for a couple hours. I talked with Kohler who sent me replacement hoses and confirmed it is in the pull out hose.(I changed the pull out hose only and the smell was gone for 2 weeks) Does anyone know of a manufacturer that uses a material that will not react with my well water. The water was tested last year and was fine. I've had a pull out faucet for 6 years prior to changing it this year without any smells or problems.

government regulations have banned lead in all faucets. i suspect something else in your faucet that has been substituted for lead is reacting with the well water causing it to change the chemistry of the hose ??
for example, some of the brass parts are now made of different alloys.
