 Toilet overflow question
Author: JJennett (TN)

This morning my oldest son woke up to his bathroom being flooded. The toilet bowl had overflowed during the night. The water level in the bowl was high and the water level in the bowl of the other bathroom on the same level was low. What can cause the bowl to overflow without being flushed?

FYI- my oldest son is 25 and an aircraft mechanic. lol he didn't plug it up with a toy. smiling smiley

The main sewer line is partially blocked and needs to be augured out.

The toilet itself may be clogged (primary) and the flapper may be leaking (secondary).

Two things had to happen.
1. SOMETHING clogged the toilet, and
2. The fill valve did not shut off or the flapper did not drop and seal after a flush.

Unless this is a multi-level structure with the affected toilet as the lowest point that water could overflow on that stack. Either way, the drain needs cleaned first.

Tehy stated that the OTHER toilet in an adjacent room did NTO overflow, so it must not have been a systemic failure.

Other bathroom same level does not mean adjacent.
