 American standard faucets from1987
Author: Denise (WI)

I have a bathroom with gold faucets. They are losing their finish and look tacky. I am told the rough in for the tub and shower will not allow for replacement faults without breaking up,the tile. Anyone have info on this? Maybe an adapter or easier, less expensive way to replace these faucets.

Faucets are proprietary to each manufacturer, and even within a single manufacturer, parts are seldom interchangable between different models. In other words, what you have is what you live with. You either open the tile and replace the ENTIRE valve, or have what you now have replated to look new.

Do you know what model the faucet is?

Are they really GOLD or just Polished Brass? There is a remote possibility that the faucet can be removed and be refinished and repaired, then re-installed. This process is timely and costly. There are several companies in North America that do this. The process could take several months to do as the faucet must be broken down into the smallest pieces, dipped and cleaned in acid before the gold plate takes place. Did I mention how expensive it can be?

Best Wishes

The ones who do it in this area take a few days. I doubt that American Standard ever had a "gold plated" faucet.
