 Shower Noise

What a great forum this is!

My master shower has been having some issues. When I turn on the water it will run a few minutes and then an ungodly noise begins.

From what I am gathering, it sounds like I have air in the pipes. If I turn on the water in the sink the shower noise will cease after a few moments.

The one thing I haven't heard people mention when they talk about air in the pipes is that when the shower noise begins, the water flow practically ceases. When I turn on the sink, the water starts flowing again.

Is the water flow aspect, consistent with air in the pipes or does this sound like something else?

Great thanks in advance!

Jim

when someone is running water and "an ungodly' noise happens, it is usually because of a loose washer somewhere. why it stops when you open another faucet ????

It sounds like a bad pressure balancing spool in your shower valve. When you turn on the lavatory, it is probably a sharp enough pressure drop that it knocks the spool back into proper positioning, like snapping your fingers at a dog; it may only work for a bit before it doesn't do what it is supposed to.

It is ONLY "air in the pipes" if you have a compressor hooked to them and are pumping air into the pipes. Air goes OUT of pipes, it does not flow into them.
