 Pex faucet connector need washer?
Author: Kingludd (VA)

I want to replace the braided flex faucet lines in my bathrooms with pex faucet connectors. I like the clean look of a properly fitting supply line. I used the gray pex connector and a plastic faucet nut on the plastic tailpiece and cannot get it tight enough not to leak. The compression connection at the stop is fine and doesn't leak. Am I missing something? Should there be some kind of rubber washer between the conical pex piece and the tailpiece?

(Those flexible lines are so damn easy to hook up but they look like crap and I can't stand having to put a loop in one.)

Wait a minute ... I have tools and some supplies to make pex connections. Why can't I make a faucet supply line from pex parts?

just put a dab of pipe dope onto the cone shaped end of the pex connector.

I only use brass supply line nuts when attaching pex supply lines. I throw the plastic ones away.

Thank you packy for the tip about pipe dope big grin

I've looked at my big box stores for brass faucet nuts. Are brass compression nuts, like those from a 3/8 union the same thing?

Thank you packy for the tip about pipe dope.

compression nuts are not the same. if you are tossing out your old flexable supplys, chop off the nuts on the top of them (if they are brass).
