I have recently bought a new refrigerator and connected an old copper line to the refrigerator as the manufacturer suggested. I was told by the installer that I need PVC piping due to high mineral deposits in Arizona. if the line was good enough for the old fridge, why is it not good for the new one?

did the installer offer to sell you a plastic installation kit at a reasonable price ?

replace the copper if it is kinked otherwise leave it alone..

If he actually said "PVC" then he did not know what he was talking about in the first place, but I have used copper for refrigerator connections for the past 45 years in AZ with no problems.

Of course, but mine was an undercounter unit.

Packy, they didn't have ice 45 years ago, let alone machines to make it. I have seen way too many plastic ice-maker supply lines break over the years due to heat stress from the refridge compressor. I only use copper, regardless of water quality issues. When it leaks, it isn't usually catastrophic.

use HDPE - replace every 10 years - $10 max for tube, two glands, two inserts

What about a braided stainless steel flexible connector?

That is what I would use, unless they need something longer. Then I use copper.

They are vinyl lined junk.

The braid is to prevent a 'blow-out' and prevent abrasion.

In my own home I use High Density Polyethylene - HDPE

(not from the big box stores, who only offer what APPEARS to be HDPE but is actually LDPE)
