 stopped up pipes
Author: Faye (MS)

I am a 72 y/o female left with rental house and no one to help me. Ever since the bathroom was remodeled, tenants c/o tub being stopped up. (dug some chipped up rotten wood out of the tub drain where repairman was too sorry to plug the drain when he removed rotten wood) but have had it unstopped (supposedly) twice by Mr. Rooter. Now tenants say the kitchen sink drain on the other side of the house is stopped up. Going to look at it tomorrow to try to figure out what to do and who to call which is why I'm posting here. What do you suppose is going on and give me some suggestions as to which way to turn with this. Please!

Tenants say they put drano in pipes. I stopped pipes up years ago with drano. What if I added liquid plumbr now? Or anything to unstop pipes???

hire a rooter company to cable the lines.
ask the tenants to be considerate of what goes in the drains. no grease down the kitchen sink.
put a hair strainer in the tub.

the plumbers on this site time and time again advise not to put harsh chemicals down the drains.

Tenants had already put drano in lines before they told me and I immediately told them to not put any more in the lines. the lines have been cleared twice near the bathroom and city says lines are clear to the city drainage. Bought strainers for bathtub and kitchen sink. Hopefully they are using them. So the clog may be under the house. Do plumbers snake lines under the house? House is up off the ground but it is a wet area and tight under there. Guess I will call them to snake again. Thanks for replying.
