 Shower drain replacement
Author: doit herselfer (CA)

My shower drain is leaking, what do I do with it once I remove the lead & oakum? It is a metal pipe and the shower is on a concrete slab and I don't have access under it. I couldn't figure out how to post my own pic, but the pic in this post is the same layout I have.

your photo is not showing..
but, if you remove the lead and oakum and clean the joint really well, you can get a ribbed, rubber donut shaped gasket that you grease up and tap into the joint with a hammer.

I guess the real question is HOW do you know the joint is leaking if it is on a concrete floor and you cannot see underneath it? That joint is the one place that should NOT leak, and even if it did, it could be resealed.

There is water leaking onto the floor outside the shower pan. We are remodelling the bathroom have pulled out the flooring and can see the water spreading. I tested the different locations in the shower for the leak, including the pipes to the shower head.
