Sealant for a Clothes Washer Drain Hose Connection?

In a recent move, the fitting on the back of the clothes washer was broken and had to be replaced. After the drain hose (going to the drainage standpipe) was reconnected to the machine's fitting and clamped tight, I had a small amount of leakage from that connection point (i.e., the fitting to the drain hose); couldn't get it tight enough to stop the leakage. Is there some sealant to put on the fitting and/or inside the hose which makes the connection more complete (kind of like the way plumbers tape makes the seal on the threads of metal plumbing connections)?

Author: hj (AZ) If you use the right fitting, the right hose, AND the right clamp, you do NOT need any "sealant". Therefore, one of the three items is not the right one.

Author: packy (MA) try doubling up on the hose clamps. install them so they are opposite eachother.
