35 year old shower drain stuck

Help, I'm removing an old cracked fiberglass shower and replacing with a new insert. The drain is stuck and there is no cross to use or even visible lip at the bottom of the drain in the pipe. How do I get the old drain iff to fit the new?

between the butt end of the pipe and the shower drain flange there is poured lead. take a small drill bit and drill a whole bunch of closely spaced holes and it will come apart.

However, you want to do it carefully, since the pipe appears to be plastic so the drill bit could cut it easier than it would the lead, because it is softer than the lead.

I'm not convinced that it's lead around the pipe. I'm inclined to believe that its caulking, over a brass ring and rubber compression sleeve.
