 Replacing Tub Spout
Author: greekguy7 (IL)

I have to replace a tub spout cause its leaking a bit. Any suggestions before I start?? It looks like it's threaded on, but not sure its its a 1/2 or 3/4 nipple and how long the nipple is. Hopelfully it comes off easily and I won't have to disturb the existing nipple... but I rather be ready for bad case scenario. THANKS!!

Are you sure it's threaded on? Look on the bottom, there might be a set screw.

you have no choice but to put a wrench on it, turn CCW and see what happens.
chances are the female threads on the spout are some kind of plastic while the brass nipple is screwed into a brass elbow. this should mean the spout will come apart easier than the nipple will.
the nipple could be 1/2 threaded into a bushing at the back of the spout or it could be 3/4 all the way.
you will be the first to find out..

How is replacing the tub spout going to stop the dripping ? Do you mean the diverter is leaking by when using the showerhead ?
