 how to remove leaking nipple
Author: 369joeboe27 (AZ)

Just bought a new Moen shower valve. All sweat joints are fine except where I joined the valve body to an elbow with 1/2" copper nipple. I made the nipple a little too short so that the valve body and elbow are nearly touching. When I pressurized system the joint leaks. Short of buying a new valve I'd like to know how to remove the nipple from the valve body without destroying the valve. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Remove the guts from the valve housing, heat the housing at the leaking joint until the solder melts. Remove the nipple, clean the housing and nipple, reflux and solder the nipple back in.
