I'm installing 3/8 pex in my camper plumbing. Which crimper is preferred the copper band style or the stainless band pinch style?

I have had to replace the crimp ring style only two years old in commercial buildout. the rings had broken causing leaks. had to be a bad crimping tool because rings were different sizes. 1/2" 3/4 and 1"

You only need a single tool for the cinch/pinch ones so it is a cheaper tool to purchase. I have both kinds of tools so the choice depends on the job and access to the joints.

IMO: best = copper crimp ring

either tool requires CHECKING of the 'calibration' using a 'go - no go' gage set

if set too 'loose': leak

if set too 'tight': stress at fitting and/or clamp ring

pex crimp caliper gage for various size rings

ps. the 'cheapo' tools can NOT be adjusted but must be 'trashed' when out of spec (ha-ha-ha)
