A plumber came and replaced a leaky diverter valve on my VERY old 3 handle speakman faucet. Now the old bonnet screw diameter is too small to fit into the new diverter. Does anyone know if there is somewhere online I can order such a replacement? I'm guessing I need a whole new escutcheon set b/c I don't think a larger diameter bonnet will fit the old one. Or is there some way to jeri-rig this but putting connector between the old bonnet and the diverter?

TAPCO, still has some old parts for Speakman Showers, but they are not online, nor sell to the public. You still have to go thru one of their distributors.

There are several interpretations of your description, depending on how things go together. A good hardware store will have a "stepped screw" that is different sizes on each end, which may be what you are looking form.
