 Shower temporary stopgap?
Author: Hyperopia (WA)

Ok, so I know by asking this I'm going to get a lot of grief, but I would rather ask than not.

So I work at a summer camp where we dont have a lot of money and so things need to be temporarily fixed until I can devote time and money....anyway.

I have a shower that won't stop dripping because the valves are probably faulty.

I know that I am going to have to fully replace it soon, but I just want to know....for now....can I just put a ball valve on right before the shower head so that the leaking will stop, or will this mess something up in the line to that particular shower?

Again, I know I need to fully fix it, but for now can this work?

The ball valve would cross the hot and cold, especially if someone left the hot and cold stems open and closed the ball valve. If the stems aren't stripped, new seats and washers might be an inexpensive fix.

Yes, it will work as a temporary fix. Just make sure the hot and cold valves are closed before shutting off the showerhead to keep the hot and cold from getting crossed.
P.S. At the summer camp I went to many moons ago, there was a knob marked HOT in the shower; it was pretty much a joke. It NEVER got hot. Everybody took 60-second showers. smiling smiley

New washers would be less expensive than the ball valve.
