 Essential Drain Cleaning Tools

I have a hard time working with my 25' drill auger. It doesn't seem to work, hard to get around elbows and such. I don't have any experience clearing drains so I am surely doing something wrong.

For a homeowner with an old plumbing system, please suggest the best drain cleaning tools I should have and some explanation on how to use them.

personally i hate the drill types because they are so awkward and hard to use. i prefer the ridgid k-30 available at your local big orange. but i only use that for lavs, tubs and shower drains and the occasional washing machine trap. anything more than that and i use the k-400 for up to 3" lines and i have a second drum for it so i can go up to 4" lines or harder blockages such as roots

Normally, the tools you "should have" are too expensive for occasional usage, and as for how to use them VERY carefully, because, unlike your drill snake, they can cause serious injury or even death.
